One year ago, I wrote a song about the 2024 election. I was in a very dark place emotionally, and needed to be heard and sit with myself in my feelings about what was about to happen. Particularly on my mind were reproductive rights, a cause about which I feel very strongly. Since I wrote the song, Roe V Wade has been overturned. Today I feel many things— joy about the outcome of this week’s election, fear for my neighbors being kidnapped off the street, a continued bafflement and sorrow about the ways in which this administration is dismantling our human and constitutional rights every day, joy in my own personal life and friendships, a feeling that I am never doing enough, desperation about the climate crisis, the faith that art will get us out of this, and hope that the extremists in power now are actively showing people that we need to find a better way, and fast.

This song is for when you’re having a dark moment and need someone to sit with you and feel it with you. You’re not alone in your despair— and maybe art really is the lifeboat that will get us out of this mess.

You cannot do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good you can do. I hope this song helps. ❤️
